Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo acknowledged Friday that he confronted an umpire following his teams loss to the New York Mets on Thursday. It was more about the frustration with the inconsistency and ambiguity of the rules than it was about any specific call, Rizzo said, according to The Washington Post. There were three calls [Thursday] night that were interpreted in different ways. There was a call May 10 against the Detroit Tigers that was interpreted in a different way. It was about that. It was unfortunate.Rizzo, manager Dusty Baker and Jayson Werth were all unhappy that Werth was called for?an illegal takeout slide at second base as the Nationals were attempting a comeback.According to the New York Daily News, Rizzo told the umpire crew, You blew it, after the game. Rizzo and second-base umpire Jim Joyce then had to be restrained by Citi Field security, the newspaper reported. There has to be a consistency to the interpretation of the rule. Until we get that, the players dont really know what it is, Rizzo told the Post on Friday. Theyre kind of searching for different ways to do it. The middle infielders are searching for whats legal and whats not. Until we get some consistency, its really gonna be a mystery for the players.Rizzo said he has not heard from Major League Baseball about any potential punishment. He was suspended in 2011 for confronting umpires, according to the Post.Information from The Associated Press contributed to this report. Franmil Reyes Padres Jersey .
